d80, d90, d95 and Flow Sense warnings usually point to restricted airflow.
The dryer is detecting that hot, moist air is not leaving the machine as well as it should. In many cases, the issue is not the control board — it is airflow: a clogged lint filter, lint buildup inside the dryer, crushed flex hose, blocked outside vent flap or restricted vent duct.
Even if the dryer still dries, this warning should not be ignored. Poor airflow makes the dryer run hotter, extends drying time, stresses thermostats and fuses, and may cause the dryer to shut down for protection. The right approach is to check the full airflow path: filter, internal ducting, blower area, hose, outside exhaust, heat operation and temperature sensors.
If the lint filter is clean, the next things to check are the lint trap area, the flex hose behind the dryer, the outside vent flap and whether strong air is actually coming outside.
But if the warning keeps coming back, the restriction is often deeper. Lint can build up inside the dryer cabinet, around the blower housing, heating area or internal air channel.
There can also be a temperature sensor, thermostat, wiring or airflow monitoring issue. At that point, filter cleaning is not enough — the dryer needs disassembly, airflow testing and heat-system diagnosis.
On Samsung dryers, these codes can point to different systems.
HE, HC or hE are often related to heating or overheating. tS, tO or tE can point to a thermistor or temperature sensor circuit. 9C1 can be related to power supply. dC or dE usually points to a door switch or door lock issue.
A code gives a diagnostic direction, not a final answer. For example, a heating error does not always mean the heating element is bad. The real issue can be airflow, thermal fuse, thermostat, thermistor, wiring, control board, power supply or door circuit. Proper diagnosis starts with the model number, the code, heat testing, airflow testing and electrical checks.
These warnings are usually related to poor exhaust airflow.
The dryer may still heat and even dry the load, but if air is not leaving properly, the inside of the dryer becomes too hot and humid. This can make cycles longer, trigger safety controls and put extra stress on parts.
Common causes include a clogged lint screen, lint buildup inside the dryer, crushed flex hose, restricted vent duct, long vent run, blocked outside flap or an airflow/temperature control issue. In this situation, both the dryer and the exhaust path need to be checked.
Not always. With Kenmore, the exact model number matters because different Kenmore dryers were built on different platforms.
E64 is often related to the heating circuit: heating element, wiring, connector, thermal fuse or board relay. E68 often points to a stuck button or control panel issue. E8 / E08 may be related to overheating, temperature control or poor airflow on some models.
So the error does not always mean “bad heater.” Sometimes the heating element is fine, but the dryer overheats because airflow is restricted. Sometimes the issue is a thermostat, sensor, wiring or control board. The correct process is to check the model number, heating circuit, thermal fuse, thermostats, wiring and airflow.
On Whirlpool-family dryers, codes can relate to airflow, control board, temperature sensor, moisture sensor, motor circuit, wiring or communication issues between components.
AF often points to airflow restriction, while F-codes need to be checked against the exact model.
The same code cannot be diagnosed properly without the model number. We first identify the model, confirm the code, then test the related components: airflow, thermistor, heating circuit, control board, wiring, motor circuit and sensors. This helps avoid replacing good parts.
No. A bad heating element is common, but it is not the only possible cause.
If the dryer tumbles but does not heat, the issue may be the thermal fuse, high-limit thermostat, cycling thermostat, thermistor, board relay, wiring, motor switch or power supply.
On electric dryers, the drum may turn even when the 240V heating supply is not correct. On gas dryers, the issue may be the igniter, gas valve coils, flame sensor, burner assembly or gas supply. Without testing, it is only a guess. The full heating circuit and airflow need to be checked.
If the dryer heats but clothes still take too long to dry, the issue is often moisture removal, not heat.
The dryer may be hot inside, but if moist air cannot escape, the moisture stays in the drum. It works like a hot, humid chamber: there is heat, but not enough drying.
Possible causes include a clogged lint filter, lint inside the cabinet, weak airflow, crushed hose, clogged vent duct, blocked outside flap, dirty moisture sensor or Sensor Dry issue. Both heat and airflow need to be checked, otherwise replacing a part may not solve the problem.
The problem can be heat-related or airflow-related.
On an electric dryer, we check the heating element, thermal fuse, thermostat, relay, wiring and 240V supply. On a gas dryer, we check the igniter, gas valve coils, flame sensor, burner and gas supply.
But if the drum is warm and the clothes are still wet, airflow is often the issue. Hot, moist air must leave the dryer. If it stays trapped inside, the dryer runs longer, overheats and dries poorly.
That sounds like overheating or a safety shutdown.
When hot air cannot leave the dryer properly, internal temperature rises, and safety components may shut down the heat or cycle until the dryer cools.
Common causes include a clogged vent, lint inside the dryer, weak airflow, faulty thermostat, thermal fuse, overheating motor or control board issue. Replacing the thermal fuse alone is not enough if the overheating cause remains. The real question is why the dryer overheated.
It is better to stop using it until it is checked.
A burning smell does not always mean electrical wiring is burning. Often it is overheated lint, dust on the heating element, debris in the air duct, a slipping belt, motor issue or overheating inside the cabinet.
The right step is to stop the dryer and avoid running another cycle until it has been inspected. Diagnosis should include the heating area, lint buildup, blower housing, belt, motor, wiring, thermostats and airflow. A burning smell is not something to “watch for a few more days.”
It is better to check it before a full breakdown.
These noises often start with worn drum rollers, idler pulley, belt, drum bearing, blower wheel or motor pulley. While the dryer still runs, it may seem minor, but a bad roller or pulley can quickly damage the belt, motor or drum.
If you hear squeaking, squealing, metal scraping, heavy humming or vibration, the drum, rollers, belt, idler pulley, blower wheel and motor should be inspected. Early repair is often cheaper than waiting until the dryer stops completely.
If Timed Dry works better than Sensor Dry, the issue may be the moisture sensor, dirty sensor bars, weak airflow, load size, clogged lint filter or a control issue.
Sensor Dry depends not only on heat, but also on how accurately the dryer reads moisture in the clothes.
Dryer sheets can also leave a film on moisture sensors and the lint filter. That can make the dryer read moisture incorrectly and either stop too early or run too long. Diagnosis should include sensors, airflow and heating performance.
A clogged vent is not just a “long drying time” problem. Lint builds up near hot air, the heating element or the burner. When air cannot leave properly, the temperature inside the dryer and vent duct rises. This increases the risk of overheating, burning smell, shutdowns, repeated thermal fuse failure, thermostat damage, motor stress and heating system problems. In serious cases, restricted dryer venting can become a fire risk. That is why long dry time, airflow codes, burning smell and shutdowns should be checked properly.
We clean the dryer itself as part of the completed repair: internal lint buildup, accessible internal air passages, heating area, blower area and applicable moving parts.
This is important because a lot of lint collects inside the machine, not only in the wall duct. Cleaning the dryer internally helps it run cleaner, quieter and with better airflow after the repair.
If the long house vent duct is also restricted — for example, the vent runs through the wall, upstairs, to the roof, or over a long distance — we will point it out during the airflow check. Full long-duct cleaning may require a dedicated vent cleaning service, but we will still inspect the dryer-side airflow, clean what is accessible inside the dryer, and explain clearly what is needed next.
The diagnostic process is the same: heat, airflow, sensors, belt, rollers, motor, thermostats and control system.
But access to a stacked dryer is often more difficult. It may take more time to safely reach the back, remove panels or partially disassemble the setup.
Because of access, the repair may take longer and the price may differ from a freestanding dryer. But the actual diagnosis is still based on the same checks: symptom, airflow, heat, mechanical parts and electrical circuit.
For common dryer repairs, we usually carry frequently used parts: heating elements, belts, rollers, thermal fuses, thermostats, idler pulleys and other common dryer parts.
That is why many dryer repairs can be completed in one visit.
Rare, brand-specific or model-specific parts may need to be ordered. If that happens, we explain what part is required, why a generic substitute is not suitable, how long it may take and whether a second visit is needed.
A typical diagnosis and repair often takes about 1–2 hours when the problem is common and the part is available.
Belts, rollers, thermal fuses, thermostats and heating elements can often be replaced in one visit.
More complex cases take longer: stacked units, difficult access, hidden airflow problems, intermittent errors, wiring issues, control board problems or rare parts that need to be ordered. Before repair, we explain what we found, how long it should take and whether the repair makes sense.
In many cases, yes — especially in Woodbridge and nearby areas.
If the request comes in early and there are available slots, we try to diagnose and complete common dryer repairs the same day.
If the call comes after noon, the schedule is already full or a rare part is needed, the repair may move to the next available appointment. We first check the symptom, model and parts availability so we can give you an honest answer about timing.
